Irrigation For Walnut
Plantations
We design trickle irrigation systems for walnut plantations. Price is
approximately $350.00 per 140 tree acre (spacing at 15 ft. by 20ft.) The
price includes all tubing, fittings, emitters, pressure regulator and
small screen filter ready to hook up to standard garden hose fittings.
A one acre system would use 3 gallon of clean water per minute for 3 to
4 hours twice a week under dry conditions depending on soil type. This
would apply 2 to 3 gallon of water per tree per cycle. The system needs a
minimum of 20psi water pressure to operate properly.
A general layout diagram is required to design the system.
The tubing is linear low density polyethylene with U.V. inhibitors to
prevent breakdown in sunlight. This should last 8 or more years above
ground and longer if it is buried. It will not split in freezing weather,
therefore blowing the system out with air is not required for winter shut
down. Small utility tractors will not damage the tubing by driving over
it, as long as there are no sharp stones to puncture it. Similar systems
are available for pond or river water.. Call for specs.
Shipping costs are $45.00 per system. Shipped U.P.S. or truck
freight.
Larger filters and supply lines are available as well as individual
fittings and bulk tubing, please call for current pricing. Low volume
emitters available for large layouts will reduce the gallons per minute
required as well as size of tubing, but do require a longer run cycle. We
will advise during design on what kind of emitter to use. 2 Inch lay flat
line for supply and large header is $140.00 per 300 ft roll. I recommend a
HondaWH20X pressure pump with a 5 hp. gas engine as the most
reliable pump I have found for pumping out of ponds where no electricity
is available. These cost about $700.00
